The Lake Michigan Beneteau First 40.7 Fleet is the governing organization for the owners of the Beneteau First 40.7 sailboats in the Lake Michigan Sail Racing Federation, Area III.  The purpose of the Fleet is to enhance one-design amateur sail racing while maintaining safety, the pleasurable aspects of the vessels and limiting associated costs.

Waukegan 2011

(Sunday, June 19, 2011) Everything was going fine for Dave Tarson’sMojo, winner of 2011 Chicago to Waukegan crew aboard Excalibur about two-hours into the 26 nautical mile, Chicago to Waukegan race, on Saturday the 18th. Excalibur had about a quarter mile lead on the rest of the Beneteau 40.7 section. Then the wind died. Then it slowly filled from the northeast. That’s when a couple of the boats that had been behind, Das Boot and Mojo, maybe in 3rd and 4th place, did the painful tack and headed a bit further, maybe a mile or two into the Lake. That’s where the breeze filled in from. (more...)

NOOD 2011 WON BY BARTZ & HARDY ON TURNING POINT 

 
(Sunday, June 12, 2011) Start a three-day regatta with anTurning Point abandoned race due to no wind. Add fog, building breeze, three foot chop, cold damp gray skies, and finally, on the last day, a pinch of sun. Mix with seven completed races. At the end you have the 2011 Chicago NOOD, Forty Point Seven Style and Turning Point emerging the victor with skippers Dave Hardy and Bill Bartz and the reliable Turning Point crew. Jim McDonnell’s Spanker won 2nd place and Ron Buzil’s Vayu was 3rd(more...)

Fleet 2010 Year-end News

 
For the Lake Michigan Beneteau 40.7Das Boot, Skipper Jay Muller driving, approaches the first mark of the first race of the Sheldon Clark Regatta Fleet, the year of 2010 drew to a close in September with some rough and inclement weather. The annual Bi-State Regatta was cancelled on September 3rd because high winds and waves entering St. Joseph Harbor made that an untenable haven.  (more...)

Verve Cup 2010

Vayu wins verve cup & 40.7 north american championship

(Sunday, August 22, 2010)    The lead position changed three times on the last race of the eight-race Verve Cup Regatta and was finally won by Ron Buzil’s Vayu.  By winning the race Vayu won the regatta, and along with it, the Beneteau 40.7 North American Championship.
 
“That last race was extremely exciting for us,” said skipper Ron Buzil. “We were in third place behind Collaboration and Das Boot at the weather mark but the pack of us three had a good lead on the rest of the section.  (more...)

(Saturday, August 14, 2010)  With two Area III regattas completed the last two Saturdays, the Boat of the Year competition is heating up. Das Boot and Vayu are tied for first place with the tie-breaker going to Das Boot. But La Tempete, Turning Point, and Collaboration are all within 6 points of the leaders and with possibly eight races to go, anything can happen before the season ends on September 26th. (more...)

Winning 40.7's Excalibur and Collaboration(Monday, July 26, 2010)  The “Lake Fox”, Robert Vickery, sailed his boat, Collaboration 2, to victory in the Beneteau 40.7 section on the 102nd race from Chicago to Mackinac Island. Mojo, with co-skippers Gary Powell, Scot Ruhlander and Jeff Comeaux finished in 2nd place about eight minutes behind Vickery. Dave Tarson’s Excalibur finished in 3rd place, twelve minutes behind the leader. Thirteen boats of the Lake Michigan Beneteau 40.7 Fleet participated in the race. (more...)

Das Boot finds the pressure and wins lutz
