Meeting Presided by: Ron Buzil
Location: Navy Pier
1) State of the Fleet was given by fleet captain Ron Buzil. The state of the fleet is very good.
We have 12 boats going into the 2008 season. There is a local, non-fleet boat for sale, which if sold to a racer, could bring our fleet up to 13 boats.
2) 2008 Schedule. The schedule was reviewed and no exceptions were made.
3) Area III Report. In Jay Muller’s absence, Ron Buzil informed the skippers that the schedule has been submitted to Area III.
4) Fleet Development. It was agreed to continue our seasonal ad in Sailing Magazine.
5) Vote. Dave Hardy on behalf of Turning Point requested that their Airx700 spinnaker count as the 9th sail for the Mackinac race (as the heavy weather spinnaker). Ron Buzil pointed out that Mike Considine at UK-Halsey Sails explained that Airx700 is not considered a heavy weather spinnaker for the 40.7 (Airx900 would be). After much discussion a vote was taken and the request did not pass.
Vote results: Aye (4): Cancan, Tsunami, Turning Point, Das Boot
Nay (6): La Tempete, Collaboration, Mojo, Excalibur, Vayu, Broderi
6) Measurements. It was agreed that non-fleet, out of town boats participating in our class in the 2008 Mackinac race would be inspected prior to the race. Bob Vickery, as chairman of our technical committee will conduct the inspections. Ron Buzil, as fleet captain, will inform the out of town participants and provide them a copy of our rules.
7) Kattack. It was agreed that the Kattack Race Analysis system, used by our fleet at last year’s Verve Cup Regatta, was very useful and that we will explore it’s use for this year’s NOOD and Verve.
8) Treasurer’s Report. Dave Tarson was not present so we will request a treasurer’s report from him by email.
9) Booth Report. George Papagiotopoulos reported that everything went well with the booth and that it generated some interest. Thanks to George, Sandy Lee and Ben Kramer for their efforts to make this project successful.
10) Parties. It was agreed that the fleet will maintain the same party schedule as in 2007: A “Kick off the Season” party in the spring, dock parties at the NOOD and Verve regattas (with surpluses to be used up on the beach at St. Joseph on Labor Day Weekend) and a fall Fleet Fling. Since the bowling party two years ago was so popular, Tory Enerson and Bryan Hayes, the fleet’s social committee, will work on another bowling party in April or May.
