The Lake Michigan Beneteau First 40.7 Fleet is the governing organization for the owners of the Beneteau First 40.7 sailboats in the Lake Michigan Sail Racing Federation, Area III.  The purpose of the Fleet is to enhance one-design amateur sail racing while maintaining safety, the pleasurable aspects of the vessels and limiting associated costs.

THE "LAKE FOX”  BOB VICKERY 

Last summer, after Bob Vickery’s Collaboration 2 finished the CRobert Vickeryhicago to Mackinac Island Race in the silver for the fifth straight year we were able to interview him about his accomplishments, experiences, and about the people who mentored and sailed with him through the years.

Vickery, age 51, has been the skipper of his Beneteau 40.7, Collaboration 2 since he joined the fleet in 2004.  In his five years participating with the fleet Bob has the unequalled honor of having won the 333 mile Chicago to Mackinac Island Race three straight years (2004-2006) and having placed in that race the subsequent two years, 2nd and 3rd respectively.  (more...)

2008 SEASON ENDS ABRUBTLY IN RAIN

COLLABORATION IS BOAT OF THE YEAR

(Saturday, September 13, 2008) At 9:15 this morning, with heavy rain pouring down and many of the crews of the 40.7 fleet hunkered down in the cabins of their boats, Bow Lingle’s voice came over the VHF radio, “All races today are abandoned!” Thus was the end to the 2008 racing season. Vayu on the first race

(Sunday, September 7, 2008) In a light and oscillating west wind today, Ron Buzil's Vayu won the first race of the two-race regatta, then held on to 4th place in the second race to win overall for the Beneteau 40.7 section of Chicago Yacht Club's Commodore's Cup Regatta. Highlighting the close and competitive nature of the 40.7 fleet, in the first race, Vayu beat 2nd place Turning Point by only 2 seconds and 3rd place Collaboration 2 by only 7 seconds. Turning Point's co-skippers aboard were Dave Hardy and Bill Bartz. Collaboration's skipper is Bob Vickery. Vayu's tactician was Rob Rafson. (more...)

BOOT WINS OVERALL BISTATE

Dawn on Saturday morning.  Nearing the Michigan shore(Sunday, August 31, 2008) It took over 16 hours for Turning Point to sail the 50 miles from Chicago to St. Joseph on a race that started Friday evening. In the end, when the wind picked up a bit near the Michigan shore, she crossed the finish line over half an hour ahead of 2nd place Mojo to win the longest Chi-St.Jos race ever in the history of the 40.7 fleet (since 2001). Tsunami finished in 3rd place over 20 minutes behind Mojo. (more...)

VERVE CUP AWARDED TO BOB VICKERY Reaching leg of the "T" course on Friday

(Sunday, August 17, 2008) At the awards ceremony for the Verve Cup Regatta today, skipper Bob Vickery of Collaboration 2, was awarded the overall regatta award, the Verve Cup. This award was made as Vickery and his Collaboration 2 won the Beneteau 40.7 section at the event. The 40.7 section was deemed by the Verve Cup committee to be the most competitive of the fourteen sections participating. 2nd place was won by Tsunami, under skipper Don Hayes with tactician Tory Enerson. 3rd place was won by Vayu with skipper Ron Buzil. IT'S COLLABORATION'S TURN AGAIN AT THE ZUKASKY REGATTA

(Saturday, August 9, 2008) There have been four Area III regattas for the 40.7 fleet this year (Olympic, Daley, COL Commodore, and Zukasky), each consisting of two races on a single day. Of these eight races, Bob Vickery's Collaboration 2 has dominated the section by winning five of them. Turning Point, skippered by Bill Bartz and Dave Hardy, has won two, and Tsunami, skippered by Don Hayes, has won one. Today, at the Kathy Zukasky Memorial Regatta, Mr. Vickery won both races to solidify his lead in the Area III Buoy Boat of the Year season long series. (more...)

AT COL COMMODORE'S REGATTA

La Tempete and Excalibur(Saturday, August 2, 2008) With relentless efficiency, Turning Point, under the command of Bill Bartz, churned out two victories to win Columbia Yacht Club's Commodore's Cup Regatta today on Lake Michigan off of Chicago. Meanwhile, Tom Weber's La Tempete took 2nd place in both of the event's races for a 2nd place overall and Dave Tarson's Excalibur took 3rd place overall with scores of 3rd and 5th. (more...)
