The Lake Michigan Beneteau First 40.7 Fleet is the governing organization for the owners of the Beneteau First 40.7 sailboats in the Lake Michigan Sail Racing Federation, Area III.  The purpose of the Fleet is to enhance one-design amateur sail racing while maintaining safety, the pleasurable aspects of the vessels and limiting associated costs.

Skippers' Meeting, Dinner at Navy Pier, Pink Pony Party

(Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008) The Chicago Beneteau 40.7 Fleet affirmed it's presence among the big-boat one-design classes in Area III with a booth at the Strictly Sail show at Navy Pier from Thursday through Sunday. Saturday evening a fleet skippers' meeting was held at the pier. The meeting had representatives from 9 of the 12 fleet members. After the meeting, about thirty people, skippers, crew, friends and relatives from six boats had at dinner Joe's Be Bop Cafe at the pier. Following that, many fleet members met at the Pink Pony Party at Belmont Harbor. Photos of the entire evening can be viewed at Fleet Photos.

TSUNAMI WINS SEASON SERIES

(Chicago, Sunday, September 9, 2007) The Commodore's Cup Regatta, held today on Lake Michigan by Chicago Yacht Club was the final regatta of the 2007 season that counted for any of the season series for the Chicago Beneteau 40.7 fleet. In the end, after a 20-mile windward/leeward 5-leg course, it was Tom Weber's well-sailed La Tempete that took the gun. (more...)

(Monday, September 3, 2007) Where is the wind? Certainly not much on Lake Michigan this year. This year's Tristate Regatta over the Labor Day weekend, as always, consisted of three races, the first of 50.5 nautical miles on Friday night from Chicago to St. Joseph Michigan, the second of 27.8 nm on Sunday from St. Joseph to Michigan City, Indiana, and the third of 31.3 nm on Monday from Michigan City back to Chicago. Winds were extremely light which resulted in the latest finishing times for the leading boats for these events in years, or at least since 2002 when the 40.7's started racing these events as a one-design section. (Chicago, Saturday, August 11, 2007) After an interminable postponement today of over two hours, a fair wind delivered victory into the hands of La Tempete, skippered by Tom Weber, at the Kathryn Zukasky (Breast Cancer Awareness) Regatta hosted by the Burnham Park Yacht Club. This is the first regatta of the year that La Tempete has won, a year in which five different boats have won the six 40.7 class events held so far. (more...)

COLLABORATION WINS FRAN BYRNE REGATTA

 

(Sunday, AugTsunami and Collaboration going upwindust 5, 2007) In the most wind the Chicago Beneteau 40.7 Fleet has seen all year in any buoy event, Collaboration, skippered by Bob Vickery, and with what Bob described as a “light crew of eight”, won the two-race Fran Byrne Regatta with race finishes of 3rd and 1st.
